Take a hike!

Hiking is one of those activities that is deceptively simple. It encompasses all sorts of activities, from gentle strolls through the forest to scaling mountains with a tent in your backpack – but the underlying key is being outside, enjoying nature, and getting some exercise while you’re about it.

Although walking through the fields may not seem like a lot of exertion, hiking is actually a really great physical activity. While you’re hiking, your heart rate rises, your lungs get a workout, your muscles and joints get some action, and you burn off calories at a sharp rate – add a backpack to that, and it’s even more of a challenge.

It’s not just your body that feels the benefit. Hiking is also great for your mental health. The effect of nature and fresh air on your mental wellbeing is well-documented, and regular hiking can decrease stress levels, improve sleep habits, enhance energy levels, and boost serotonin.

Life is a busy thing, and when you’re running your own business, it’s easy to get swept away by work. Burnout is a real risk, especially for an entrepreneur – after all, all the pressure is coming down directly onto your shoulders. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is essential for your physical and mental health; it’s also essential for your business.

When you’re well-rested and energetic, your productivity is enhanced, along with your concentration. Not only that – communication is also improved. How so? Well, when you’re exhausted and on-edge, it’s easy to feel irritable and impatient when you’re dealing with other people. If you’re happy and relaxed, people are immediately more comfortable with you. When you’re dealing with clients and investors, this is a pretty major thing!

Regular hikes are a wonderful way of dealing with that stress and pressure. As your body works out, your mind relaxes, and you get to see some beautiful scenery along the way. The best part is, you don’t need a lot of fancy equipment or training to get started.

There are a lot of different apps available which list the hikes in your region, and provide GPS tracking as you walk – that way you don’t risk getting lost in the wilderness. Once you know where you’re going, start off with a few shorter, easy hikes. All you need to get started are some comfortable and solid shoes, suncream, a water bottle, and a sunhat if you’re going to be taking a walk in direct sunlight.

Grab yourself some snacks for along the way. Nuts are a wonderful source of protein and energy, while banana or an orange will give you a healthy boost of vitality. If you’re hiking somewhere colder, make sure you’re wearing the appropriate clothing – puffy clothes will keep you warmer, as they hold pockets of warm air – and that your shoes can handle ice and snow. Before you go hiking, let someone know your plans, especially if you’re hiking alone. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

That’s all you need! It’s easy to get started, and making time for hiking in your life can open up a whole new world of increased energy and positivity. Take photos of the places you see, and let yourself bask in the beauty of the world around you.
